Here is a list of some of my favourite books. They are full of inspiring ideas and practical advice, and every one listed is well worth adding to your Christmas wish list!

Dyeing:

Ruth Issett, Colour on Cloth (Batsford 2004).
If you have never tried hand dyeing fabric then this book is an excellent place to start.

Yoshiko Iwamoto Wada, Mary Kellogg Rice & Jane Barton, Shibori: The Inventive Art of Japanese Shaped Resist Dyeing (Kodansha International 1999).  The bible of shibori dyeing!

Fabric Books:

Jan Bode Smiley, The Art of Fabric Books(C&T Publishing 2005)

Pam Sussman, Fabric Art Journals (Quarry Press 2005)

Felting:

Birgitte Krag Hausen, New Felt: Using the Felting Needle (Klematis 2003).
If you are new to needle felting then one look at some of the wonderful creatures featured in this book will have you itching to try it.

Ayala Talpai, The Felting Needle: From Factory to Fantasy (Diligence Woodwork & Design 2000)

Knitting/Crochet:

Sally Harding, Quick Crochet, Huge Hooks(Mitchell Beazley 2005).
After countless failed attempts at learning to crochet, I finally succeeded in a single afternoon using the instructions in this book.  I completed my first crocheted project the same evening.

Leigh Radford, AlterKNITS (STC Craft 2005).  If, like me, you have knitted for years but always been a little scared of abandoning patterns and experimenting, then have a look at this book.  It makes experimenting with knitting seem much less scary - and it has some obvious but clever (i.e. why didn't I ever think of that?) creativity exercises, which would be great for knitting groups, although you can easily do them alone too.

Stitching/Embroidery:

Jan Beaney & Jean Littlejohn, Stitch Magic: Ideas and Interpretation (Batsford 2005).
See also their "Double Trouble Enterprises" series of booklets.

Janet Edmonds, Three-Dimensional Embroidery (Batsford 2005)

General:

Gwen Diehn, The Decorated Journal (Lark Books 2005)

Kay Greenlees, Creating Sketchbooks for Embroiderers and Textile Artists (Batsford 2005)

Danny Gregory, The Creative License (Hyperion 2006).  I am a huge fan of Danny Gregory's work and this, his newest book, is just fabulous.  If you have love the idea of visual journalling but are too scared to try it, or indeed, if you have tried and enjoyed it but just can't manage to keep it going over time, then this is the book for you.  It is bursting with ideas, inspiration and encouragement.
